Linear Stress Analysis
Apex’s engineers are experienced in calculating and predicting stresses in both composite and metallicstructures. The predicted stress are compared to yield or ultimate material strength values in order to evaluate compliance with clients’ margins of safety.
Due to the complex nature of today’s structures, stresses are often generated by creating (FEM) finite element models. Apex’s engineers are experience in creating and running complicated models efficiently and effectively utilizing Femap and NX Nastran. Stresses are also generated using traditional text book closed form methods. Apex’s engineers are great at determining which method can most quickly validate the design and demonstrate compliance to customer requirements. Determining the most efficient method is critical to saving our client’s schedule and money.
Metallic features such as fittings and bolted joints are evaluated for fastener reaction forces, tear-out loads, pull-out loads, and bearing loads. Bolted joints are complicated and critical features of structures which require experienced engineers.
Composite structures stresses are predicted for ply, interlaminar, and transverse direction stresses.
